Floods Leave Town In Chaos, Vehicles Submerged In Mandi

July 29, 2025: The beautiful town of Mandi in Himachal Pradesh is having a hard time dealing with the heavy rain that started on Monday. The rain has caused widespread flooding and landslides that have destroyed homes and businesses. The Zonal Hospital Mandi has been affected the hardest, with too much water collecting and drains overflowing. Initial reports say that at least two people have died and there is a lot of damage across the region.

Himachal Pradesh: Mandi is in ruins because of floods and landslides. Two people died, the hospital was flooded, and viral videos show the chaos.
Heavy rain has caused several landslides in Mandi, which has stopped traffic and put people in vulnerable locations at great risk. A heartbreaking video that news agency published widely on X (previously Twitter) shows the aftermath in great detail, with automobiles buried in thick, muddy waters surrounded by catastrophic damage, fallen tree trunks, and destroyed houses. The pictures also show a broken car stuck between two buildings while unclean water pours down.

Rohit Rathour, the Municipal Commissioner of Mandi, told about the bad situation: “Because of heavy rain, debris from the upper regions has settled in the lower regions.” This could be because of a cloud burst. All of the officials are now working on relief… We got a call about damage close to Jail Road. A lot of individuals have killed in the event. “We have found two bodies.” Reports from other sources say that three people have died in Mandi, while one person is still missing.

The never-ending monsoon season has taken a terrible toll on Himachal Pradesh. Sadly, Mandi district has seen the most deaths (32) in the state this monsoon. The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) said that since June 20, the state has seen 42 flash floods, 25 cloudbursts, and 32 landslides. These have caused a lot of damage to roads, homes, and important infrastructure. Reports say that at than 40 people have died in the Kangra and Chamba districts alone, in addition to Mandi. This destruction has cost the state more than ₹1,523.11 lakh in economic losses thus far.

Mandi officials have started clearing the roads quickly and sent out emergency response teams. People who live in places that are likely to suffer disasters have been warned to be careful. But heavy rain that comes and goes is still making it hard for relief and rescue attempts to continue.
