Haryana Police Springs into Action After CM’s Stern Warning Over Rising Gangster Threats

June 25, 2025: Haryana Police– The liquor business in Haryana is reeling under the threat of gangsters, leading to a growing reluctance among traders to participate in auctions for liquor contracts. Following death threats and the recent killings of two liquor contractors, fear has gripped the industry. As a result, nearly 300 liquor outlets across the state remain without bidders.

The law-and-order situation came under sharp scrutiny after the murder of liquor contractor Shantanu in Shahbad on June 13, allegedly by gangsters. Political opposition launched strong attacks against the government, questioning police inaction.

In response, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini took serious note of the deteriorating security situation. During a high-level meeting on June 18 with police and excise officials, he directed them to tighten the noose around criminal gangs.

However, despite these orders, another shocking incident occurred on June 22—the murder of contractor Virender alias Bindra in Kharkaramji village, Jind. This second killing further intensified public outrage and increased pressure on law enforcement.

Soon after, Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapoor visited Jind, giving strict instructions to field officers. While local DSP Jitender Rana claimed the murder stemmed from personal enmity, gangsters Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara claimed responsibility for the killing in a social media post.

Meanwhile, police have launched a crackdown. In recent encounters, gangster Romil, carrying a bounty of ₹3 lakh, was killed, and four other criminals were arrested. These operations signal a strong response by Haryana Police to restore law and order.

Still, the atmosphere remains tense. Contractors say they continue to receive threats while bidding for liquor licenses. The fear of being targeted has made many back out of auctions, threatening to disrupt the state’s liquor distribution network and tax revenue.
