Heavily armed terrorist killed, war-like stores recovered in J-K’s Baramulla

Baramulla (Jammu and Kashmir), October 21, 2024: A joint operation by the Indian Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police successfully neutralized a heavily armed terrorist in Baramulla district on Sunday. During the operation, arms, ammunition, and other war-like equipment were recovered from the encounter site, according to an official statement by the Chinar Corps.

The Chinar Corps confirmed the recovery of one AK rifle, two AK magazines, 57 AK rounds, two pistols, three pistol magazines, and other war-like stores. The operation was initiated after intelligence reports indicated a possible infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri area of Baramulla.

“Based on intelligence inputs regarding a likely infiltration bid, a joint anti-infiltration operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police along the LoC in the Uri area. Alert troops spotted suspicious activity, leading to an exchange of fire after the suspects were challenged,” the Chinar Corps statement noted.

The security forces’ vigilance prevented the infiltration attempt, and the operation continues in the area to ensure no further threats remain.

Terror Attack on Labourers in Ganderbal: In a separate incident, two labourers were killed in a terror attack on Sunday evening in Gagangeer, Ganderbal district. The attack targeted non-local labourers who were working on an infrastructure project.

Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the attack, describing it as a “dastardly and cowardly” act. “These people were working on a key infrastructure project in the area. Two have been killed, and 2-3 more have been injured in this militant attack. I strongly condemn this attack on unarmed innocent people and send my condolences to their loved ones,” he expressed on social media platform X.

The dual incidents have raised concerns over the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, with the authorities reiterating their commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring the safety of residents and workers.
