Heavy Rain Lashes Delhi-NCR, Airlines Issue Travel Advisory

Capital Grapples with Waterlogging as Monsoon Intensifies, Disrupting Commute. Airlines Urge Passengers to Check Flight Status Amid Potential Delays and Traffic Snarls

July 29, 2025: On Tuesday, Delhiites woke up to a downpour as heavy rain fell on the national capital, causing widespread flooding and making life difficult. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the area will continue to have rain. They expect light to moderate rain for the next seven days, until August 3.

Heavy rain and flooding in Delhi; IMD says more rain is on the way, and airlines are warning travelers.
The heavy rain in the early morning caused a lot of waterlogging in Delhi, turning key roads into temporary rivers and making it hard to go about. The IMD says that Delhi will probably get “generally cloudy skies with light rain at most places and moderate rain at a few places, along with thunderstorms and lightning.” This wet spell is likely to last, with light to moderate rain expected throughout week.

Several other states in North India, such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, and Rajasthan, are also forecast to have rain on Tuesday. This means that the monsoon is likely to be active all across the region.

Because of the severe rain and how it can affect travel, major airlines have told passengers what to expect. IndiGo used X (previously Twitter) to warn travelers, saying, “A Rainy Day Reminder: With heavy rain expected in Delhi, we may see delays and slower traffic to and from the airport.” The airline told passengers to check the status of their flight and give themselves more time to get to the airport. They also promised to do everything they could to keep operations running smoothly on the ground.

Air India also sent out a warning, saying that “gusty wind and rain may affect flights to and from Delhi on Tuesday morning.” People who are going to fly out of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) should keep an eye on their flight itineraries and be ready for unexpected delays.
