Heavy Rains Lash Several Parts Of Delhi-NCR, IMD Predicts More Showers Today

Delhi and NCR grapple with widespread waterlogging and traffic chaos. IMD predicts continued light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms for the day.

July 31, 2025: Delhi woke up on Thursday, July 31, 2025, to heavy rain that didn’t stop. This led to a lot of waterlogging and traffic congestion all across the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warns that Delhi-NCR will have light to moderate rain, as well as thunderstorms and lightning, over the next several hours and days.

A lot of waterlogged areas made it exceedingly hard for people to get around in Connaught Place, ITO, Pragati Maidan, and GTK Depot. Pictures shared on social media showed roadways turning into virtual ponds, and automobiles having a hard time driving through knee-deep water.

The terrible weather has quickly turned into a political blame game between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which runs the government in Delhi. Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP National Convener, used “X” to criticize how well the government was prepared for the monsoon. He sent out a video of Connaught Place getting flooded and asked how well the “four-engine” government was doing. “Connaught Place, the heart of Delhi, looks like this. It’s easy to see how bad the rest of Delhi is.” The roads turned into ponds in just 10 minutes of rain. What has the BJP done for Delhi in the last five months? Is this how quickly the “four-engine” government moves? Kejriwal said.

Rekha Gupta, the Chief Minister of Delhi, claimed that there was a lot of waterlogging. However, on Tuesday she made an unplanned visit to the ITO area and urged staff to swiftly drain the water. “Spoke with people in the area to learn more about what was happening.” “Officials have been told exactly what to do to make sure that water drains quickly during heavy rain,” CM Gupta stated on X. BJP leaders have also remarked that the Delhi government and MCD were able to keep things under control in only a few hours, which is not what happened in the past.

The IMD’s most recent forecast suggests that portions of NCR like Bahadurgarh and Manesar are quite likely to have mild to moderate rain with thunderstorms. All of Delhi, Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Ballabhgarh are also likely to see light rain. In the next two hours, it is also likely to rain very lightly or drizzle all throughout Delhi.

Wednesday’s rain and the rain that has been falling since then have already lifted July’s total rainfall over the monthly average. This makes it one of the wettest beginnings to August in the last few years for the capital city. People who live there are warned to be alert and pay attention to the weather because more rain is coming.
