India Weather Today Live Updates: Death toll jumps to 75 after monsoon wreaks havoc in Himachal, 31 still missing
July 6, 2025: Weather Today – The early arrival of the monsoon has wreaked havoc in Himachal Pradesh, resulting in the tragic loss of 75 lives over the past two weeks, according to data released by the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC). The region has been battered by heavy rains, thunderstorms, cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides, leaving 31 people still missing amid ongoing rescue operations.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a “red” alert for very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in isolated places across Kangra, Sirmaur, and Mandi districts this weekend. Meanwhile, an “orange” alert has been declared for heavy to very heavy showers in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, Solan, Shimla, and Kullu districts.
In the national capital, Delhi is expected to experience light to moderate rain on Sunday under a generally cloudy sky. The IMD forecasts a maximum temperature of 33°C with thunderstorms and lightning, while the minimum temperature will hover around 29°C.
The monsoon season arrived unusually early this year, reaching northern India in the last week of June, nearly a week ahead of the typical July 8 arrival date. This early onset has brought heavy rainfall to several northern states including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. Isolated showers were also reported recently in Kashmir, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and parts of northeastern India.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, urging residents in vulnerable areas to stay alert and adhere to safety advisories as heavy rains are expected to persist over the weekend.
