JP Nadda Urges Delhi Voters to Choose Development in Upcoming Assembly Elections

BJP Chief Highlights Vision for ‘Viksit Delhi’ Ahead of February 5 Polls; Calls for an End to Corruption and Mismanagement

New Delhi, January 7: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief and Union Minister JP Nadda welcomed the Election Commission of India’s announcement of the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025 and urged voters to elect a government dedicated to development, transparency, and improving the quality of life in the capital.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Nadda emphasized the importance of elections as a “festival of democracy” and a platform for citizens to ensure good governance and progress.

“I welcome the Election Commission of India’s announcement of the Delhi Assembly Elections. Elections are the biggest festival of democracy. They are a medium to keep the country and the state advancing on the path of development and good governance. I urge the people of Delhi to choose a government that focuses on improving the standard of living, combating corruption, reducing pollution, and providing quality services to make everyday life easier,” Nadda posted.

Highlighting the BJP’s commitment under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Nadda added, “Under the guidance of Hon. PM Narendra Modi ji, the BJP government has been continuously working towards the comprehensive development of Delhi and will further our efforts to turn the dream of a ‘Viksit Delhi’ into a reality.”

Delhi BJP Confident of Victory

Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva echoed Nadda’s sentiments, expressing optimism about the party’s prospects in the upcoming elections.
“5 February is a date of change… The people who looted Delhi will now face the people’s verdict. On February 8, a double-engine BJP government will be formed,” Sachdeva stated.

Election Timeline and Voter Demographics

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that polling for the Delhi Legislative Assembly will take place in a single phase on February 5, with vote counting scheduled for February 8.

• Scrutiny of nominations: January 18
• Withdrawal of candidature: January 20

With the announcement of the election dates, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into force and will remain effective until the completion of the election process.

The final voter list, published on January 6, 2025, recorded 1,55,24,858 registered voters in Delhi, showing a net increase of 1.09% compared to the previous elections.

Political Landscape in Delhi

The Congress party, which once dominated Delhi politics with 15 consecutive years of governance, has been struggling in the last two assembly elections, failing to secure even a single seat.

In contrast, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal, secured a landslide victory in 2020, winning 62 out of 70 seats, while the BJP managed only eight seats.

The Road Ahead

As the political temperature rises in Delhi, BJP plans to focus on its vision for ‘Viksit Delhi’, promising infrastructure growth, pollution control, improved healthcare, and educational reforms.

The AAP will highlight its achievements in education, healthcare, and governance, while the Congress aims for a revival in the national capital.

With February 5 marking the polling day, the stage is set for an intense political battle in Delhi, with results to be declared on February 8, 2025.
