A landslide triggered by rain struck a hydro-power project near Dangduru in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on the night of Sunday-Monday, resulting in the death of one worker and injuries to another, officials said on Monday.
In a separate incident, 235 people, including women and children, were rescued from 38 vehicles stranded at the high-altitude Sinthan Top due to heavy snowfall. The White Knight Corps, in coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police and civil administration, carried out the rescue operation, providing hot meals, drinking water, shelter, and medical assistance to those affected.
Authorities have ordered the closure of all educational institutions outside municipal limits in Kishtwar and nearby Doda district as a precautionary measure. Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Sharma, SSP Naresh Singh, and the commanding officer of the 11 Rashtriya Rifles supervised the multi-hour operation, which involved clearing snow-blocked roads and ensuring safe evacuation of stranded civilians.
Officials said the combined efforts of the Army, police, and National Highways teams demonstrated a coordinated response to safeguard lives in the challenging terrain and severe weather conditions.
