Mumbai Weather Forecast: IMD Issues Yellow Alert, Predicts Heavy Rain Today

July 3, 2025: Mumbai is bracing for a fresh spell of intense monsoon activity as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) places the city under a yellow alert through Thursday, July 3. According to the forecast, Mumbai will experience a mostly overcast sky with spells of heavy rain, raising concerns over waterlogging and commuter disruptions, especially in low-lying areas.

Heavy Rains Forecasted from July 3 to 6

The IMD has warned of persistent rainfall from July 3 to July 6, affecting not only Mumbai but also Thane and Palghar, both of which are under a yellow alert as well. The alert signifies the possibility of isolated heavy downpours, which could impact normal life and cause delays in road and rail traffic.

Orange Alerts in Coastal Maharashtra

The IMD has placed Raigad and Ratnagiri districts under an orange alert during the same period, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in these coastal areas. Authorities have also flagged the potential for flash floods and landslides in vulnerable hilly zones.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea due to rough conditions and high wind speeds, especially along the Konkan coast.

Weekend Outlook: More Intense Showers Expected

The rainfall is expected to peak around July 6 (Saturday) in Mumbai, with the likelihood of intense downpours and gusty winds in certain pockets of the city. While the yellow alert will persist, orange alerts will remain in force in nearby Konkan districts, warning of more severe weather.

Weather Conditions Across Maharashtra

  • Konkan Coast (Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg): Orange alert in place with forecasts of heavy to very heavy rain throughout the week.
  • Central Maharashtra (Pune, Kolhapur, Nashik): Yellow alert issued; intermittent showers likely, mostly in the afternoon and evening.
  • Vidarbha & Marathwada (Nagpur, Aurangabad): Moderate rainfall expected with occasional intense spells, but no severe alerts so far.

Precautions for Residents

Authorities have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel, especially during peak rainfall hours, and stay away from waterlogged or landslide-prone areas. Emergency services are on standby to respond to any incidents of flooding or disruption.
