June 16, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert forecasting extremely severe rainfall at isolated places in Raigad and the ghat regions of Pune and Satara districts over the next 16 hours. An orange alert has also been sounded for Mumbai and several other districts in the Konkan and Vidarbha regions.

Incessant rains lashed Mumbai early Monday morning, inundating low-lying areas and causing widespread disruption. Konkan and other parts of Maharashtra have experienced heavy downpours for several days, resulting in 18 deaths and 65 injuries linked to rain-related incidents since June 1, officials confirmed.

According to the latest IMD district forecast and warning, heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy showers at isolated spots is expected in Raigad and the ghat areas of Pune and Satara until 8:30 AM on Tuesday. An orange alert, signaling the need for preparedness, has been declared for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts in the Konkan region, as well as Amravati, Bhandara, Gondia, and Nagpur in Vidarbha.

The alert system urges authorities to “take action” in red alert zones and “be prepared” in orange alert areas. The warnings remain valid until 8:30 AM on Tuesday.

Persistent rainfall has caused flood-like situations in several Konkan districts due to swollen rivers, submerging villages and towns situated along riverbanks. Authorities continue to monitor the situation as the region braces for further heavy rains expected over the next two to three days.
