Rahul Gandhi’s Remarks on China Spark BJP’s Fury in Parliament

Kiren Rijiju and Nishikant Dubey Demand Apology, Accuse Gandhi of Spreading Misinformation

New Delhi, February 4: A heated debate erupted in the Lok Sabha on Monday after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made critical remarks about India’s manufacturing sector and its competition with China. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and BJP MP Nishikant Dubey strongly condemned Gandhi’s statements, accusing him of misleading the nation and undermining India’s interests.

Kiren Rijiju: “Rahul Gandhi Praises China More Than a Chinese Spokesperson”

Addressing the Lok Sabha, Kiren Rijiju criticized Rahul Gandhi, claiming that his statements on China and India’s manufacturing sector were false and damaging. Rijiju further demanded an apology, asserting that Gandhi should take responsibility for China’s territorial advances during the 1959 and 1962 conflicts when his grandfather, Jawaharlal Nehru, was Prime Minister.

“Today, the Leader of Opposition praised China more than a Chinese spokesperson. He should apologize for all the land China took in 1959 and 1962. This is the Parliament of India, and we will not tolerate any insult to our country,” Rijiju stated.

The Minister also accused Gandhi of making unverified claims and noted that Speaker Om Birla had repeatedly asked him to authenticate his allegations. “If we take Rahul Gandhi’s statement lightly, in the future, any LoP will say whatever they want and leave. He should authenticate his claims, or the Chair should take action,” Rijiju added.

Nishikant Dubey Accuses Rahul Gandhi of Weakening India’s Manufacturing Sector

Echoing Rijiju’s sentiments, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey launched a scathing attack, accusing Gandhi of misrepresenting India’s economic policies and spreading misinformation about the Make in India initiative.

Dubey alleged that under the Congress-led UPA government, trade agreements with China weakened India’s manufacturing sector and benefited Beijing. He pointed to a zero-duty trade agreement signed during P Chidambaram’s tenure as Commerce Minister, claiming it allowed an influx of Chinese products, including toys, gadgets, and accessories, that harmed Indian businesses.

“The previous government sold out the country with this deal. But after 2014, under PM Modi’s leadership, India refused to join ITA-2 to protect domestic manufacturers and promote Make in India,” Dubey said.

He also challenged Gandhi to provide evidence that PM Modi’s government had failed to promote Indian manufacturing. “If you cannot authenticate your statements, then apologize to the nation for the lies you’ve spread,” Dubey demanded.

Rahul Gandhi: “Make in India Has Failed, and China Has Gained Ground”

Rahul Gandhi, while speaking in the Lok Sabha, claimed that the ‘Make in India’ initiative had failed to boost the manufacturing sector, leading to a decline in its contribution to GDP from 15.3% in 2014 to 12.6% today, the lowest in 60 years.

“Wars are not just fought by armies but by industrial systems. China has been working on batteries, robotics, motors, and optics for the last ten years, giving them a significant edge over India. We must realign our education, enlist experts, spread financial support, and align our trade and foreign policies to compete,” he argued.

The Congress leader also accused the Modi government of failing to retain control over India’s industrial and economic data, stating, “India has handed its consumption data to big American companies while lacking critical production data.”

His comments triggered strong protests from BJP MPs, with Speaker Om Birla instructing him to substantiate his claims.

Parliamentary Clash Highlights Political Battle Ahead

The fiery exchanges in Parliament reflect the intensifying battle between Congress and BJP, with Rahul Gandhi aggressively targeting the Modi government ahead of the 2024 general elections.

While Congress seeks to position itself as a champion of economic reform, the BJP remains steadfast in defending PM Modi’s initiatives, branding Gandhi’s remarks as misleading and damaging.

As the political drama unfolds, the debate over India’s manufacturing sector, China’s influence, and national security is expected to remain a central election issue in the coming months.
