Rain News; Red Alert In 3 Districts, Orange Alert In 7
June 27, 2025: Rain news– The monsoon season intensified in Kerala on Thursday, triggering floods in low-lying regions of Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) responded by issuing a red alert for Idukki, Malappuram, and Wayanad districts, signaling extremely heavy rainfall. Seven other districts in the state were placed under an orange alert.
Heavy rains and strong winds caused significant disruptions, including uprooted trees and fallen hoardings in Thiruvananthapuram and other areas. The IMD specifically warned about rising water levels in key rivers such as the Muvattupuzha in Ernakulam, Bharathapuzha flowing through Thrissur and Malappuram, Achankovil and Pamba in Pathanamthitta, Manimala in Kottayam, Thodupuzha in Idukki, and Kabani in Wayanad.
According to the IMD’s alert system, a red alert means rainfall exceeding 20 cm in 24 hours, an orange alert covers 11-20 cm of rain, and a yellow alert indicates 6-11 cm of rainfall. Meanwhile, the state irrigation department has issued warnings for multiple rivers reaching dangerously high levels.
Residents are advised to remain vigilant, avoid travel to flood-prone areas, and follow official guidelines to ensure safety as the heavy monsoon continues.
