Train Delayed As Fire Breaks Out In Daund–Pune DEMU, No Injuries
June 17, 2025: A potential disaster was narrowly avoided at Yevat station in Pune on Tuesday morning when a coach on a halted passenger pune train began filling with smoke after a fire broke out in a garbage bin.
According to officials from the Pune Railway Division, the incident occurred around 7:52 AM when an elderly passenger boarded the train and lit a bidi (traditional Indian cigarette). He later discarded the still-burning bidi into a garbage bin located near the coach’s toilets, unintentionally setting its contents ablaze.
Smoke quickly filled the compartment, alarming passengers and railway staff. Fortunately, quick action from the train personnel helped contain the situation before it escalated. The fire was extinguished without causing any injuries.
Railway authorities are urging passengers to refrain from smoking and to remain cautious with flammable items while onboard. An official complaint is expected to be filed, and further safety instructions are being reinforced across stations in the region.
