Uttar Pradesh Declares Maha Kumbh Mela Area as New District Ahead of 2025 Event

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), December 2: In a significant administrative move, the Uttar Pradesh government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has officially declared the Maha Kumbh Mela area in Prayagraj as a new district. This decision aims to streamline management and operations for the grand religious event scheduled between January 13 and February 26, 2025.

The newly formed district, named Maha Kumbh Mela District, will oversee the smooth execution of the event and facilitate better administrative coordination. The declaration was formalized on Sunday by District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandad, who issued a notification under the Uttar Pradesh Prayagraj Mela Authority Act, 2017.

“The boundaries of the Maha Kumbh Mela District will include revenue villages and the entire parade area outlined in Annexure-I. The Mela Adhikari will have executive powers equivalent to a District Magistrate, Additional District Magistrate, and Collector under relevant legal provisions,” the official notification stated.

Additionally, the appointed Mela Adhikari will oversee all executive, judicial, and revenue matters within the district. The order grants the officer authority under the Indian Civil Defense Code, 2023, and the Uttar Pradesh Revenue Code, 2006 (as amended in 2016).

The decision underscores the significance of the Maha Kumbh, held every 12 years, as a cornerstone of Indian culture and spirituality. The event is expected to draw millions of devotees from across the globe, making effective administration and infrastructure development crucial.

The Maha Kumbh Mela is widely regarded as a milestone in showcasing India’s rich heritage, and this administrative measure is a step toward ensuring the event’s success.
