Weather Today Live Updates: Red Alert in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh As Beas River Overflows Following Heavy Rainfall

June 30, 2025: Weather– The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Himachal Pradesh, warning of very heavy rainfall, severe flooding in the Beas River, and heightened risks of landslides and flash floods across several districts. Authorities are on high alert as the region braces for another spell of intense weather.

Widespread Rainfall Triggers Flood Warnings

According to IMD’s latest advisory, light to moderate rainfall is expected in Bilaspur, Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Hamirpur, Mandi, and Kangra on Sunday, with intense to very intense rain likely at isolated locations. Districts like Kullu, Una, and Chamba are also forecast to receive moderate showers, while isolated rainfall is predicted for Kinnaur, Lahul, and Spiti over the next few hours.

The red alert comes after an earlier orange alert was issued on June 26, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall from June 29 onward. IMD officials have expressed concern over rapidly rising water levels in rivers, especially the Beas, and the increased likelihood of landslides in hill regions.

IMD Scientist Warns of Dangerous Conditions

Speaking to ANI, Sandeep Kumar Sharma, Senior Scientist at IMD’s Shimla Centre, said:

“Almost all regions in Himachal Pradesh received rainfall during the past 24 hours. The highest rainfall was recorded in Palampur (76 mm), followed by Banjar (75 mm). Moderate rainfall of 55 mm was recorded in Sirmaur. People should stay away from rivers and streams; the landslide risk remains high.”

While a brief relief in rainfall is expected on June 28, Sharma confirmed that the weather is expected to deteriorate again by June 29 and 30, particularly affecting districts such as Una, Bilaspur, Solan, Shimla, and Sirmaur, for which an orange alert remains in place.

Public Advisory Issued

The IMD has urged both residents and tourists to avoid riverbanks, steep slopes, and landslide-prone areas. The department has been actively sharing forecast updates with the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) and other concerned agencies.

“Forecasts are being updated via SMS and are being regularly shared with authorities,” Sharma added.

Precautionary Measures Underway

With the monsoon intensifying, local administration teams have ramped up monitoring and response systems. Emergency services are on standby, and advisories have been issued across all vulnerable districts.

Residents are advised to follow local updates and exercise extreme caution, particularly when traveling in hilly or flood-prone areas.
