June 29, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall across multiple states over the coming week, prompting several weather alerts to keep citizens prepared.

In North India, an orange alert has been issued for parts of Himachal Pradesh starting June 29, warning of heavy rains accompanied by potential flash floods, rising river levels, and landslides in vulnerable districts. Senior Scientist at IMD Shimla, Sandeep Kumar Sharma, confirmed that many areas in Himachal have already seen intense rainfall in the past 24 hours, with Palampur recording 76 mm and Banjar 75 mm of rain.

Heavy and very heavy showers are expected intermittently in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Rajasthan between June 28 and July 4. The IMD cautioned residents to remain alert, especially near rivers and streams, due to the high risk of landslides and floods.

In East and Central India, isolated heavy rainfall is predicted over Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Vidarbha, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands during this period. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are also likely to experience heavy showers.

The Gangetic plains of West Bengal and Bihar are forecasted to receive heavy rainfall from June 28 to July 4, raising concerns about waterlogging and disruption in these populous regions.

Along with the rainfall, the IMD also warned of accompanying thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph across many affected areas.

Citizens are advised to stay updated on weather bulletins and take necessary precautions to mitigate risks posed by severe weather in the coming days.
