Supreme Court Pledges Support to Pahalgam Victims, Families Demand Martyr Status for the Fallen
New Delhi, April 27:
In the aftermath of the horrific terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, Supreme Court Judge Justice Dipankar Datta expressed deep sorrow and reaffirmed the judiciary’s commitment to supporting the victims’ families.
Justice Datta stated, “Our hearts go out to all the bereaved family members. We have taken a resolution in the Supreme Court. We are with the victims. Whatever can be done through NALSA or any other legal services committee, the committees will do their job. We pray to God that this does not happen again.”
Adding to the voices of solidarity, Delhi High Court Judge Justice Saurabh Banerjee expressed hope for a brighter future. “I regret what has happened. I suppose we will soon see the dawn of a good day, and we will have our brothers and sisters in Kashmir sharing the same belief we, as Indians, share with them,” he said.
Meanwhile, grief-stricken families are seeking official recognition for the victims. Eshanaay, wife of Shubham Dwivedi—one of the attack’s victims—called upon the government to honor her late husband with martyr status.
“People forget the victims’ families, like those in the Pulwama and 26/11 attacks. We don’t want Shubham to be forgotten. I request the government to grant him the status of a martyr,” she said.
The brutal attack occurred on April 22, when terrorists targeted tourists at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, killing 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. It marks one of the deadliest attacks in the region since the 2019 Pulwama bombing that claimed 40 CRPF lives.
The government has vowed strong action against those responsible, even as calls grow for lasting solidarity and institutional support for the victims and their families.
