Suvendu Adhikari Alleges Attack on Convoy in Purulia
BJP leader stages hours-long sit-in, blames TMC and police nexus
January 11, 2026: West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday alleged that his convoy was attacked by Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers in Purulia district, creating panic and chaos at the spot. The BJP leader said the incident occurred while he was returning after attending a programme in the district.
Following the alleged attack, Adhikari proceeded to a local police station, where he raised slogans and staged a peaceful sit-in protest that lasted nearly five hours, continuing until after midnight. He accused the ruling TMC of orchestrating a planned assault on his vehicle and claimed that elements within the state police were also involved.
In strong remarks, Adhikari alleged a nexus between “criminal elements and the administration” and held Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who heads the state home department, responsible for the incident. He also claimed that files were stolen and intimidation was carried out by individuals linked to the ruling party. The BJP leader reiterated his allegations in late-night posts on social media platform X, asserting that his fight against what he termed “political violence” in West Bengal would continue. The TMC has not yet issued an official response.
