Swati Maliwal Slams Atishi for Celebrating Amid AAP’s Defeat

Rajya Sabha MP criticizes Atishi for holding a roadshow after winning Kalkaji while AAP faces a massive electoral loss.

New Delhi, February 9:

Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal launched a sharp attack on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi after she was seen celebrating her victory from the Kalkaji constituency despite AAP’s crushing defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections.

Maliwal criticized Atishi for holding a roadshow and dancing after her win, calling it a shameless display when her party had suffered a massive setback in the elections.

“Atishi should be ashamed. Her party has suffered a huge defeat… All their main leaders have lost. Yet, she did a roadshow to celebrate her win and even danced during it. What is she celebrating? Her party’s loss?” Maliwal said.

Maliwal Accuses AAP of Avoiding Transparency

Maliwal further slammed AAP for failing to table the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report in the Delhi Assembly, questioning the party’s commitment to accountability and transparency.

“The people who came to power to bring the Jan Lokpal did not even implement the existing precedents. The CAG report should be tabled immediately in the Assembly and undergo a strict investigation,” she added.

Earlier, Maliwal posted a video of Atishi dancing and celebrating with supporters after winning the Kalkaji Assembly seat, calling it inappropriate given the party’s electoral downfall.

“What kind of shameless display is this? The party lost, all the big leaders lost, and Atishi Marlena is celebrating like this?” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Atishi’s Victory Amid AAP’s Collapse

Despite AAP’s overall poor performance, Atishi managed to retain her Kalkaji seat, defeating BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri by 3,521 votes. Acknowledging her personal win, she accepted the party’s defeat and vowed to continue fighting against BJP.

Atishi’s victory was one of the few silver linings for AAP, as several top leaders—including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and ex-Deputy CM Manish Sisodia—suffered major electoral losses.

Meanwhile, BJP’s Parvesh Verma made headlines by defeating Kejriwal in the New Delhi seat with a decisive margin of over 4,000 votes.

Delhi Government Dissolved, BJP to Take Charge

Following AAP’s defeat, Atishi resigned as Delhi Chief Minister on Sunday. Subsequently, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena dissolved the Seventh Legislative Assembly, paving the way for the formation of a BJP-led government in the national capital after 27 years.
