Party fields prominent leaders as it looks to expand footprint in the state
April 3, 2026: Amid ongoing seat-sharing talks and political strategising, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday announced its list of candidates for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The list, released from the party’s headquarters in New Delhi, features a mix of senior leaders and regional faces, reflecting its effort to strengthen its position in the state’s competitive political landscape.
Among the prominent candidates, Union Minister L. Murugan has been fielded from Avinashi (SC), while former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan will contest from the high-profile Mylapore constituency. Their inclusion highlights the BJP’s strategy of deploying experienced and recognisable leaders in key seats to boost its electoral prospects and visibility in Tamil Nadu.
The party has announced candidates across several constituencies, including Avadi, Tiruvannamalai, Rasipuram (SC), Coimbatore (North), Thanjavur, Madurai South, Ramanathapuram, and Tiruchendur, among others. With a broad slate of nominees covering multiple regions, the BJP aims to expand its grassroots presence and make deeper inroads in the state ahead of polling.
