Tensions Escalate Along LoC: Blackout in Jammu, Pakistani Drones and Jet Shot Down, Infiltration Foiled

Amid heightened cross-border hostilities, Indian Armed Forces respond with precision after multiple Pakistani provocations, including attempted drone strikes, missile attacks, and infiltration bids.

Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir), May 9:
Amid escalating tensions along the Line of Control (LoC), a complete blackout has been enforced in Jammu, following a series of explosions and siren alerts early Friday morning in the Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir. The situation remains fluid, with further details awaited.

The blackout comes on the heels of heightened cross-border activity that began Thursday night. At approximately 11 p.m. on May 8, the Border Security Force (BSF) thwarted a major infiltration attempt near the International Boundary in the Samba district.

Taking to social media platform X, BSF Jammu posted:
“At around 2300 hours on 8 May 2025, BSF foiled a major infiltration bid at the International Boundary in Samba district, J&K.”

Adding to the rising conflict, multiple defence sources reported that a Pakistani Air Force jet was shot down by Indian Air Defence systems in the Pathankot sector of Punjab. While official confirmation is awaited, the news is circulating widely among defence circles.

Simultaneously, Indian forces intercepted and shot down two Pakistani drones in the Naushera sector, during a heavy exchange of artillery fire between both sides. Defence officials confirmed that the drones were neutralized before they could inflict damage.

The Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff issued an update noting that Pakistani forces attempted to target Indian military installations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur using drones and missiles. However, these threats were successfully neutralized with kinetic and non-kinetic countermeasures, and no casualties were reported.

Their statement read:
“Military Stations of Jammu, Pathankot and Udhampur in proximity to the International Boundary, in Jammu and Kashmir, targeted by Pakistan using missiles and drones. No losses. Threat neutralised by Indian Armed Forces as per SoP.”

These developments follow India’s high-precision military response under Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7. The mission involved targeted missile strikes on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 28 civilians.

The Indian government confirmed that the strikes specifically targeted infrastructure linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), sending a clear signal of India’s zero-tolerance policy toward cross-border terrorism.

With military activity intensifying across multiple sectors and Pakistani provocations mounting, India’s defence apparatus remains on high alert as the region braces for further developments.
