Tensions Escalate at Shambhu Border as Police Dismantle Barricades

“The Road Was Blocked by the Government, Not Farmers”—Channi Slams Crackdown

Haryana and Punjab Police Clear Protest Sites Amid Farmer Detentions and Political Clashes

🚜 Police Crackdown on Protesting Farmers

Security has been tightened at the Haryana-Punjab Shambhu Border as police launched an early morning operation on Thursday, dismantling concrete barricades and clearing protest sites.

🚨 Bulldozers were deployed by Haryana Police to remove the roadblocks, intensifying tensions between farmers and the authorities.

On Wednesday evening, Punjab Police removed farmers from their protest site, signaling a shift in the state’s approach to the long-standing demonstrations over various demands.

🗣️ No Force Used, Says Punjab Police

📢 “Farmers cooperated well and left voluntarily,” claimed Patiala SSP Nanak Singh after overseeing the eviction.

🔹 “The entire road will be cleared and opened for traffic soon.”

🔹 The police ensured that no force was used, and farmers were transported back home by bus after proper warnings.

🚨 Farmer Leaders Detained—Tikait, Channi, and BJP Leaders React

Several key farmer leaders, including Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha leader Sarvan Singh Pandher, were detained.

💬 BKU Leader Rakesh Tikait strongly condemned the crackdown:
📢 “On one hand, the government is negotiating, and on the other, it is arresting farmers. We are ready for every struggle.”

💬 Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi accused the government of betrayal:
📢 “Farmers were attacked from behind and deceived. The road was blocked by the government, not the farmers. They just want to reach Delhi.”

💬 BJP Leader Fatehjung Singh Bajwa slammed Punjab’s AAP government:
📢 “AAP played politics with farmers. They detained leaders like Dallewal and Pandher for their own political gains.”

⚖️ Punjab Govt Defends Action—”Farmers Should Protest in Delhi, Not Block Punjab Roads”

🚧 Punjab Minister Harpal Singh Cheema justified the crackdown, saying the borders needed to be reopened for economic activity.

🔹 “Farmers’ demands are against the central government, not Punjab. They should protest in Delhi, not block Punjab’s roads.”

🔹 “Businesses are suffering, youth are unemployed, and drug addiction is rising. We need to restore normalcy.”
