Terrifying Turbulence: IndiGo Flight Caught in Hailstorm, Passengers Scream-Watch Video
New Delhi, May 22, 2025 – Panic gripped passengers aboard IndiGo flight 6E2142 on Wednesday evening as the Delhi-Srinagar flight was caught in a sudden and severe hailstorm, leading to intense turbulence and visible structural damage to the aircraft’s nose.
In a viral video filmed from inside the aircraft, passengers, including children, can be heard screaming and crying as the plane violently shakes midair. Flashes of lightning are visible through the windows, underscoring the storm’s intensity.
According to officials, the pilot declared an emergency to Air Traffic Control in Srinagar as the aircraft encountered turbulence while descending. The flight, which had 227 passengers on board, landed safely at 6:30 PM, IndiGo confirmed in a statement.

“The flight and cabin crew followed established protocol and the aircraft landed safely in Srinagar,” said the airline.
IndiGo also stated that the airport team assisted passengers on arrival and the aircraft will undergo inspection and maintenance before being cleared for further use.
While IndiGo did not initially confirm the extent of damage, images widely circulated on social media—and later verified by NDTV—show a significant dent and damage to the aircraft’s nose cone, likely caused by the hailstorm’s impact.

The turbulence over North India came amid a dramatic weather shift. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Delhi-NCR was hit by a hailstorm, heavy rains, and wind gusts reaching 79 kmph late Wednesday evening.
In just three hours—from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM—Safdarjung recorded 12.2 mm of rainfall. The storm caused traffic disruptions, uprooted trees, and damage to infrastructure, including a portion of the Nehru Vihar Bridge.
Metro commuters on the Yellow Line were stranded for hours, and several flights at Delhi Airport were delayed or diverted.
According to IMD, a cyclonic circulation over Haryana, embedded in an east-west trough from Punjab to Bangladesh, is driving the weather anomaly. The system is drawing moisture from both the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, intensifying storm activity across the region.
This weather upheaval came just hours after Delhi recorded sweltering temperatures, with the heat index peaking at 50.2°C. The maximum temperature touched 40.7°C, with humidity levels ranging between 64% and 34%.
