Terror Plot Foiled in Hyderabad; Two Men With Suspected ISIS Links Arrested

Explosives seized from duo with alleged ISIS connections amid heightened vigilance post-Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor

May 19, 2025: In a major counter-terror breakthrough, Hyderabad Police on Sunday foiled a terror plot with the arrest of two men suspected of planning bomb attacks in the city. The accused, identified as Siraj Ur Rehman (29) and Syed Sameer (28), are believed to have links with an ISIS module operating from Saudi Arabia, police officials confirmed.

The arrests were made following a joint operation by the counter-intelligence units of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana police. Acting on a tip-off, Rehman was first apprehended from Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh. His interrogation led authorities to Syed Sameer, who was arrested in Hyderabad.

A search of their premises led to the recovery of explosive materials, including ammonia, sulphur, and aluminium powder, typically used in the manufacturing of IEDs.

Both suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be presented in court shortly. Officials have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as preventive security efforts continue.

The arrests come amid heightened national security alerts following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, including that of a Nepali tourist. In the wake of the tragedy, the Centre warned of possible activation of sleeper cells across Indian cities.
