At least 26 people, including tourists from India and abroad, were killed in a horrific terrorist attack at Baisaran meadow, just five kilometers from the popular resort town of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. The attack marks the deadliest strike on civilians in the region since Pulwama in 2019.

Shocking videos have surfaced on social media showing the moments before and during the assault. One widely circulated clip shows a man walking through the serene meadow just seconds before the sound of gunfire erupts in the background. Screams fill the air as panic grips the area.

Another video captures the same man breathlessly describing his narrow escape. “A terrorist attack has taken place here… we escaped narrowly… God will protect us,” he says, visibly shaken. Later, in an interview, he revealed he initially mistook the gunshots for firecrackers. “We thought it was firecrackers when we heard two to three rounds. But then people started screaming. We ran for our lives,” he recounted.

According to police, terrorists opened fire indiscriminately at the tourist-heavy spot around Tuesday afternoon. Among the 26 killed were two foreign nationals from the UAE and Nepal, along with two local residents.
Another video, filmed by a local, shows tourists scrambling for cover as chaos unfolds. The screams and frantic rush to safety underline the suddenness and severity of the attack.
“This kind of attack has never happened here. It was a peaceful place, and we never imagined something like this,” the survivor added, expressing disbelief and sorrow over the tragedy.
The attack prompted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to cut short his diplomatic visit to Saudi Arabia. He returned to New Delhi on Tuesday night, a full day ahead of schedule. The assault has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation across India and the world.
