Delhi Police Special Cell detains Uttar Pradesh youth, probes alleged ISIS links and wider network

April 5, 2026: The Delhi Police Special Cell has detained a youth from Kushinagar on suspicion of involvement in terrorist activities. The individual, identified as Rizwan Ahmed, was picked up from the Chhawani area of Padrauna town and brought to Delhi for questioning. Officials said he came under the scanner during an ongoing investigation, and a team led by Inspector Nishant Dahiya carried out the operation with support from local police. Authorities reportedly recovered incriminating material, including a mobile phone, laptop and other electronic devices, which have been seized for further examination.

Investigators are also examining Ahmed’s past, particularly alleged links to the ISIS. According to police sources, he had previously been jailed in Mumbai between 2017 and 2023 in connection with a terror-related case where explosives were allegedly recovered from his residence. Phone records at the time reportedly indicated international contacts. Officials are now gathering information about his family, associates, and movements, while security has been tightened in the area.

The development comes amid a broader crackdown on suspected terror networks in Uttar Pradesh. Recently, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad arrested four individuals linked to a suspected module with alleged foreign handlers. Investigators found that operatives were using encrypted platforms such as Telegram, Signal, and Instagram to communicate and plan attacks on key infrastructure. The latest detention is being seen as part of a wider effort to dismantle such networks and prevent potential threats.
