Petrol pump dispute spirals into high-speed chase; driver detained
February 28, 2026: A shocking road incident in Greater Noida has triggered outrage after a Thar SUV allegedly rammed into a motorcycle and dragged it for nearly 10 kilometres while attempting to flee, police said. The episode unfolded in the Dhoom Manikpur area when the driver reportedly refuelled at a petrol pump and sped away without paying. Pump staff chased the vehicle on a motorcycle, but during the pursuit, the SUV allegedly collided with the two-wheeler, injuring the rider and trapping the bike beneath the vehicle. Instead of stopping, the driver continued at high speed, dragging the motorcycle along busy roads and causing panic among commuters.
Police teams from Badalpur, Dadri Kot, and Jarcha stations coordinated a joint operation to intercept the SUV. After a chase spanning nearly 10 kilometres, officers managed to stop the vehicle and detain the accused. The driver has been identified as Harsh, a 22-year-old resident of Bulandshahr. Authorities confirmed that CCTV footage capturing the sequence of events is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation, and the vehicle has been seized.
The incident comes days after a separate Thar SUV crash in Faridabad, where a 15-year-old boy died after the vehicle reportedly fell nearly 100 feet into a gorge during an alleged stunt attempt. In the Greater Noida case, officials said a detailed probe is underway and the accused is likely to face charges related to dangerous driving, causing injury, and property damage.
