Tragedy in UP: GPS Error Leads Car Off Collapsed Bridge, Killing Three

November 25, 2024: A tragic road accident in Uttar Pradesh has claimed the lives of three individuals, including two brothers, after their car, misled by GPS navigation, plunged off an under-construction bridge into the Ramganga River. The incident occurred early this morning as the victims were traveling from Bareilly to Dataganj in Badaun district.

The car, a Wagon R, veered onto a damaged bridge in Faridpur, unaware of its incomplete status, and fell 50 feet into the river below. Villagers discovered the wreckage and informed local authorities. Tragically, all three occupants were declared dead upon recovery of the vehicle.

According to Ashutosh Shivam, the Circle Officer of the area, the front portion of the bridge had collapsed earlier this year due to floods. However, the GPS navigation system failed to update this change, misleading the driver into assuming the route was safe.

Family members of the victims expressed their grief and anger, citing gross negligence by local authorities. “There were no barricades or warning signs to indicate the bridge was unsafe. This oversight by the administration has cost us our loved ones,” one family member lamented.

The victims have been identified as Vivek Kumar and Amit from Farrukhabad, while efforts are underway to identify the third deceased passenger.

Ashutosh Shivam acknowledged the absence of safety measures on the incomplete bridge, stating, “The lack of proper barriers or cautionary signs at the site added to the danger, ultimately leading to this tragic outcome.”

The grieving families have appealed to the district magistrate to take stringent action against the responsible authorities to prevent such incidents in the future.

This accident serves as a grim reminder of the critical need for regular infrastructure updates, clear road signage, and timely GPS system modifications to ensure road safety for travelers.
