
Tragedy in UP: Platform Collapse at Religious Event Leaves 6 Dead, 50 Injured

A tragic incident unfolded in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district, where six people lost their lives, and over 50 others were injured after a bamboo platform collapsed during a religious event organized by the Jain community.

The accident occurred at the annual Laddoo Mahotsav in Baraut, where hundreds of devotees had gathered at a temple to offer laddoos. The bamboo platform, erected for devotees and priests, gave way under the weight of the crowd.

Baghpat Police Chief Arpit Vijayvargiya stated that emergency services, including police and ambulances, reached the site promptly to rescue and assist the injured. “Those with minor injuries were treated and sent home, while individuals with serious injuries are currently receiving medical care at nearby hospitals,” he said.
District Magistrate Asmita Lal revealed that the Laddoo Mahotsav, a decades-old tradition commemorating the nirvana of Jain deity Adinatha, is observed annually. She said, “A wooden structure collapsed, injuring approximately 40 people. Twenty have been discharged after first aid, while others remain under treatment.”
Rakesh Jain, a participant at the event, described the harrowing scene: “As the priests climbed the platform to offer laddoos, the structure collapsed, taking hundreds of devotees down with it.”
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, instructing officials to expedite relief efforts and ensure the injured receive the best possible care. His office also confirmed that the Chief Minister prayed for the speedy recovery of those affected.
This tragic incident has cast a shadow over the revered festival, prompting calls for stricter safety measures during such large gatherings.
