U.S. Military Aircraft Deports 104 Indians: ‘Paid 1 Crore to Get to U.S.’ Claims Gujarati Family

104 Indians, including 25 women and 13 children, were deported from the US on a military aircraft, marking a significant move in global immigration enforcement.

February 6, 2025: US Military Aircraft Brings 104 Deported Indians to Amritsar: Haryana, Gujarat, and Punjab Dominate the List

In a first-of-its-kind operation, a US military C-17 Globemaster aircraft landed in Amritsar, Punjab, on Wednesday, carrying 104 deported Indians. Among the deportees were 25 women and 13 children, with the majority hailing from Haryana (35), Gujarat (33), and Punjab (31). Smaller numbers came from Uttar Pradesh (3) and Maharashtra (2).

This unprecedented use of a military aircraft reflects the US administration’s intensified efforts to streamline the deportation process of undocumented migrants. According to officials, the flight originated from San Antonio, Texas, and arrived in Amritsar at 1:55 PM before departing for the US around 5:15 PM.

Details of Deportees and Their Struggles

Many of the deportees recounted harrowing journeys in their pursuit of the “American dream,” with some detained at the US-Mexico border just 10 days ago. Reports indicate families paid exorbitant sums to illegal immigration agents. A Gujarati family disclosed spending ₹1 crore to facilitate their journey, while another family in Punjab sold 1.5 acres of land for ₹42 lakh to send a youth abroad.

At the airport, special counters were set up to process deportees, and state authorities arranged road and air transport for their return to respective hometowns. While most families were informed of the deportees’ return, some requested authorities to keep the information confidential due to social stigma.

Deportation Controversies

Speculation arose that some deportees, except children, were handcuffed during the flight. However, this remains unverified. Charanjit Singh, a retired police inspector from Punjab, was among those receiving deportees at the airport. His grandson, deported after a brief stay in a US detention camp, shared his experience of betrayal by illegal immigration agents.

Immigration Crackdown and Investigations

This operation follows a smaller deportation event in October 2024, where a chartered flight was used. The Union government has not ruled out more deportations, maintaining that all repatriated citizens with verified antecedents would be accepted back. Authorities are investigating the agents responsible for facilitating these journeys and the exorbitant sums charged for the false promise of a better future abroad.
