Understanding the Honeymoon Horror Saga: How a Bride Became the Mastermind of Murder

What began as a traditional arranged marriage ended in brutal betrayal. Just days after their wedding, Raja Raghuvanshi was found murdered in a remote jungle in Meghalaya, his bride Sonam missing—until now.
This haunting story of love, deception, and cold-blooded murder has left two respected families in Indore shattered, and an entire community stunned.
The couple’s match was arranged through a community matrimonial booklet published during Ram Navami in October 2024, a trusted tradition in their social circle.
Raja Raghuvanshi, the youngest son of a reputed transport business family from Sahkar Nagar, and Sonam, daughter of a prominent plywood trader, were married on May 11, 2025 in Indore.
By May 20, the newlyweds had left for their honeymoon to Meghalaya. But just twelve days later, only Raja’s brutally assaulted body returned—discovered in a gorge, head smashed with a sharp weapon.
Sonam had vanished.
Behind her composed image, Sonam allegedly harboured a sinister plan. Known to be involved in her family’s business operations—from billing to supervision—Sonam had once worked with Raj Kushwaha, a billing clerk who lived nearby.
Police now describe Raj as her co-conspirator. After years of no contact, he allegedly re-entered her life. Investigators say the two plotted the murder, hiring three contract killers to eliminate Raja during the honeymoon.
According to police, the plan was meticulously crafted. The honeymoon in Meghalaya wasn’t for romance—it was the final act in a cold-blooded scheme. Raja’s family, unaware of any marital troubles, was informed only when calls went unanswered.
On June 2, Raja’s body was recovered. The terrain suggested he had been lured to a secluded area and attacked. His phone was disabled; digital trails wiped clean. Authorities suspect a machete was used.
Sonam was traced, arrested, and is now in police custody along with Raj Kushwaha and the hired killers.
Police are now scanning call records, financial transactions, and digital messages to uncover the motive.
Speaking to reporters, Uma Raghuvanshi, Raja’s mother, said:
“We had no idea. It was a simple arranged marriage. There was no love affair, no prior relationship. We chose the bride based on tradition and trust.”
The Raghuvanshi family, deeply respected in their locality, is devastated by the loss—and the betrayal.
What unfolded between May 11 and June 2 wasn’t fiction—it was a real-life crime that echoes far beyond Indore and Shillong. From a ceremonial booklet entry to a murder investigation, the tragic tale of Raja Raghuvanshi is now a grim lesson on trust, appearances, and pretense.
