In a rare but striking decision, a man from Uttar Pradesh’s Sant Kabir Nagar arranged for his wife to marry her lover, citing personal safety concerns in the wake of the Meerut murder case that shocked the nation.

The man, Bablu, a daily-wage labourer from Katar Mishra village, decided to take an unconventional and peaceful route after learning about the brutal killing of Saurabh Rajput by his wife Muskan Rastogi and her lover Sahil in Meerut. The crime, where the victim’s body was hidden in a drum, has been making headlines over the past week.
Bablu, who married Radhika in 2017, said he feared for his life after discovering her year-and-a-half-long affair with a man named Vishal from the same village. Despite asking her to end the relationship, Radhika refused.
Instead of creating conflict, Bablu took both of them to Dhanghta Tehsil, where an agreement was drawn, and he personally arranged their wedding at a local temple in the presence of villagers.
“After seeing what happened in Meerut, I decided to get my wife married to her lover so that we both can live peacefully,” Bablu told PTI.
He also stated that he would retain custody of their two children, and both families were in agreement with the new arrangement.
On being asked about the legality of the marriage, since he and Radhika are not yet divorced, Bablu claimed it was valid in the eyes of the community. “The marriage happened in front of villagers and no one objected,” he said.
