UP Nears 70% Target in Land, Housing Allotment
Yogi government’s land reform push boosts rural livelihoods and social dignity
January 22, 2026: The Uttar Pradesh government’s efforts to economically empower landless and marginalised rural families have gained pace, with the state achieving nearly 70 per cent of its annual targets for agricultural land and housing site allotments in the current financial year. The progress aligns with the Yogi Adityanath-led government’s vision of inclusive growth focused on land security, social dignity and strengthening the rural economy.
Under the land reform programme implemented through the Revenue Department and Gram Sabhas, cultivable land is being allotted to landless and marginal farmers to promote self-reliance. In 2025–26, around 151.80 hectares of agricultural land have been distributed to 1,076 beneficiaries, achieving 69.16 per cent of the annual target. Officials said access to farmland has enabled families to shift towards self-employment, reduce dependence on wage labour and contribute more actively to agricultural productivity.
Alongside land distribution, the state has also intensified housing site allotments for rural families living below the poverty line. During the same financial year, housing plots have been allotted to 3,754 families, completing 70.90 per cent of the target. With priority given to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes, the initiative aims to promote social justice while ensuring long-term economic stability and inclusive rural development.
