Pushkar Singh Dhami’s government intensifies action against unregistered religious institutions, sealing 222 illegal madrasas across multiple districts in Uttarakhand.
In a decisive move to enforce education regulation and curb unlawful activities, the Pushkar Singh Dhami-led Uttarakhand government has sealed a total of 222 illegal madrasas across the state, according to an official release on Thursday. The crackdown is part of the Chief Minister’s broader campaign to root out unregistered religious institutions that are allegedly spreading confusion in the name of education and promoting religious extremism.
Statewide Crackdown on Illegal Madrasas
The latest action saw four additional madrasas sealed in Haridwar, taking the district’s total to 85. The anti-illegal madrasa campaign has now extended across multiple districts, with 66 sealed in Udham Singh Nagar, 44 in Dehradun, 24 in Nainital, two in Pauri, and one in Almora. The government reiterated that any kind of illegal activity, religious fanaticism, or unrecognized education systems will not be tolerated.
Chief Minister Dhami has issued strict directives to local administrations to identify and immediately shut down madrasas operating without authorization. The Chief Minister’s Office emphasized that the move was not targeted at any religion but aimed at ensuring transparency, regulation, and legal compliance in all educational institutions.
CM Dhami Chairs Central Regional Council Prep Meet
In a related development, CM Dhami convened a high-level meeting at his official residence to review the preparations for the upcoming Central Regional Council meeting. He underlined the council’s importance as a collaborative platform that enhances coordination between the Centre and state governments.
Focus on Child Development and Health Infrastructure
During the meeting, Dhami also stressed the importance of child nutrition and overall development, asserting that “the future of our children is the future of the state and the nation.” He instructed departments such as ICDS, Health, Food Security, and Sports to work in close coordination to create an integrated, target-based plan for children’s physical, mental, and emotional development.
He emphasized the need to boost awareness and registration under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana at all government hospitals to ensure universal health access. Additionally, he directed officials to extensively promote the 112 emergency helpline number for faster public assistance during emergencies.
