Vande Bharat, Train to Srinagar, Sees Booking Frenzy Since Inauguration-All Seats Booked for Next 10-Days

Within days of PM Modi launching the long-awaited rail service, all seats on the Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat are sold out as passengers rush to ride across the world’s highest rail bridge.

Srinagar, June 11, 2025
The newly launched Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express has sparked an overwhelming response, with all seats fully booked for the next 10 days, officials confirmed today. The rush comes just days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the train service, marking a historic moment in Kashmir’s integration with the national rail network.

Built at a cost of ₹43,000 crore, this engineering marvel connects the Kashmir Valley to the rest of India via a high-speed rail route that includes the Chenab Bridge, the world’s tallest rail bridge, and a series of record-setting tunnels cutting through the rugged Himalayas.

A New Chapter for Kashmir Connectivity

Before the inauguration, Kashmir’s only surface connectivity with the mainland was the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH 44) — a route frequently disrupted by rain, snow, and landslides. The rail link now offers a weather-proof, reliable alternative, greatly enhancing mobility and accessibility.

Though there is no direct train from Delhi to Srinagar, passengers can reach Katra by train and then transfer to the Vande Bharat service to complete their journey to the Valley.

“The overwhelming response reflects how eager people are to experience this historic ride,” an official said, adding that demand is far outstripping capacity on the limited services currently running between Katra and Srinagar.

From engineering brilliance to national integration, the rail link has taken over four decades to complete. It symbolizes a significant step forward in Kashmir’s infrastructural development and national connectivity.
