Viral Video: Former Boxing World Champion Saweety Boora Caught Attacking Husband Amid Dowry Case and Divorce Proceedings

The sports world is in shock as a video surfaces showing ex-boxing champ Saweety Boora assaulting her husband, kabaddi player Deepak Niwas Hooda, inside a Haryana police station amid an ongoing legal dispute.

March 25, 2025: In a disturbing incident caught on camera, former World Champion boxer Saweety Boora was seen assaulting her husband, kabaddi player and Arjuna awardee Deepak Niwas Hooda, during a heated exchange inside a police station in Hisar, Haryana. The viral footage, dated March 15, shows Boora grabbing Hooda by the throat before family members and police intervened to break up the altercation.

This incident comes amid ongoing divorce proceedings between the two athletes, who were married in 2022. Boora had earlier filed an FIR accusing Hooda and his family of dowry harassment and physical assault, citing demands for a luxury car and further monetary pressures.

Police confirmed the FIR was filed on February 25 under Section 85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, relating to cruelty by a husband or his relatives. The SHO of the women’s police station confirmed that Hooda had been served multiple notices but had not yet appeared for questioning.

Speaking to media, Hooda explained his absence, stating:

“My health has taken a beating due to the trauma. I’ve submitted a medical certificate and asked for a new date. I don’t wish to speak negatively about my wife.”

Hooda is a high-profile kabaddi player who represented India in the 2014 Asian Games (bronze) and 2016 South Asian Games (gold) and also played in the Pro Kabaddi League. He had contested the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections as a BJP candidate from Meham but lost.

This episode has sparked widespread concern over the mental and emotional toll legal disputes can take on high-performing athletes. It also brings back the spotlight on dowry-related abuse cases, which continue to haunt even the most celebrated public figures.

Authorities have confirmed that further investigation is ongoing and have appealed for calm from both parties involved.
