Virat Kohli In BIG Trouble After Being Named in Police Complaint Over Bengaluru Stampede That Killed 11
Bengaluru | June 7, 2025: Cricketer Virat Kohli has been named in a police complaint filed in connection with the stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory celebration that left 11 people dead and dozens injured.
The complaint, filed by A.M. Venkatesh of the Naija Horatagaarara Vedike at Cubbon Park Police Station, accuses Kohli of negligence and seeks action against him as a public figure associated with the event. Police confirmed that the complaint will be reviewed alongside the FIR already registered under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to the FIR, the RCB franchise, event management firm DNA, and the KSCA Administrative Committee organised the felicitation program without securing proper permissions. The FIR lists charges under sections including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, unlawful assembly, criminal force, and rash acts endangering human life.

Another complaint by Roland Gomes, a stampede victim who was hospitalised, led to a second case. Gomes said he came after seeing RCB’s social media post and was caught in the crowd rush at Gate 17, suffering a dislocated shoulder.
The incident has sparked a political storm. A BJP delegation visited Cubbon Park Police Station and filed a complaint demanding FIRs against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar, blaming them for authorising the event despite police objections.
“The police commissioner had advised deferring the event by 3-4 days. Yet the government went ahead, leading to the tragedy,” said BJP MLC N. Ravikumar, calling for both leaders to resign.
BJP state leaders also slammed the government’s use of public funds and questioned why intelligence warnings about crowd turnout were ignored.

Multiple investigations have now been launched into the stampede. While the event was meant to celebrate RCB’s IPL success, it has now become a flashpoint of accountability, celebrity involvement, and political clashes.
Neither Virat Kohli nor the RCB franchise has yet issued a public response to the complaint.
