Delhi woke up to strong jolts as a 4.0-magnitude earthquake struck the city, with its epicenter located near Dhaula Kuan. No casualties reported so far, but authorities emphasize earthquake preparedness.

Delhi and its neighbouring areas experienced strong tremors early this morning after a 4.0-magnitude earthquake struck the region, with its epicenter located within the city itself.

According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake occurred at 5:36 AM near Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education, Dhaula Kuan, Delhi. The tremors were felt across Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad.

Residents Describe the Experience

Many residents, particularly those living in high-rise buildings, reported strong jolts and some even claimed to have heard a loud sound when the earthquake struck.

“It felt like a massive jolt. I woke up immediately as my bed started shaking,” said a resident of South Delhi.

Several people rushed out of their buildings in fear, though no reports of casualties or injuries have emerged so far.

Authorities Urge Preparedness

With seismic activity in North India increasing in recent months, authorities have emphasized the need for earthquake preparedness.

The Delhi Police issued a statement urging citizens to stay calm and call 112 in case of emergencies. Acting Delhi CM Atishi also reassured residents, saying:

“A strong earthquake just hit Delhi. Hope everyone is safe.

Experts have reiterated safety measures such as:
Drop, Cover, and Hold during tremors
Avoid using elevators
Stay away from windows and heavy objects
Have an emergency plan ready
