The dramatic collapse occurred around 10:30 PM, shortly after Gurugram was lashed by an intense spell of monsoon rain—with 133 mm recorded in just 12 hours, 103 mm of which fell within 90 minutes, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Nearby Wazirabad reported 122 mm during the same period.

The truck, which was in transit on the SPR, was engulfed by the crater within seconds of its formation. Fortunately, the driver escaped with minor injuries and has since provided a statement to local authorities.
This particular stretch of road had recently undergone sewer maintenance, raising serious concerns about infrastructure integrity and prompting calls for a detailed technical inspection.

The truck crash is just one of many incidents that highlighted the crippling impact of the deluge across Gurugram and the Delhi-NCR region. Key stretches—Golf Course Extension Road, Rajiv Chowk, Sheetla Mata Road, Sadar Bazaar, and Bus Adda Road—were submerged, bringing traffic to a standstill.
In Subhash Chowk, water levels reached 2.5 feet, forcing many to abandon their vehicles or remain stuck until 2:00 AM. The Narsinghpur stretch of the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway was among the worst-hit, with underpasses submerged and major gridlocks reported.

🚦 Advisory Issued, Orange Alert in Place
As of Thursday morning, Gurugram Traffic Police issued an urgent work-from-home advisory, warning citizens to avoid unnecessary travel due to slow-moving traffic and blocked arterial roads.
The IMD has issued an Orange Alert, warning of continued heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 24 to 48 hours. Emergency teams are on standby, and mobile pumps have been deployed to clear major choke points.
This incident has once again exposed the fragility of urban infrastructure under extreme weather, renewing public and civic debates around climate resilience, road safety, and drainage systems.
