WAVES 2025: ‘Real Globalization Captures Diversity, Not a Single Narrative,’ Says Jaishankar
Mumbai, March 14: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar highlighted the evolving nature of globalization, stating that true globalization is not about a singular narrative but about capturing the diversity of people and cultures worldwide. Speaking at the lead-up event to the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit 2025 (WAVES 2025) in Mumbai, Jaishankar underscored the need for countries to stay rooted in their cultural heritage while engaging globally.
“Real globalization is not about a single narrative or one truth. It is about capturing the enormous diversity of our peoples and our planet. In that sense, we are never truly global until we are truly local,” Jaishankar stated.
Jaishankar pointed out that the world is undergoing a massive economic and political rebalancing, which is now extending to technology and cultural dimensions. He emphasized the significance of Mumbai as the ideal host for WAVES 2025, given its status as India’s entertainment capital and its role in shaping the country’s cultural narrative.
“It is eminently appropriate that WAVES 2025 Summit takes place in Mumbai, a venue whose identity and characteristics capture the spirit of this endeavor,” he remarked.
The WAVES 2025 summit aims to bring together stakeholders from cinema, digital content, IT, and India’s global capability centers, solidifying India’s position as a global entertainment and content hub.
Jaishankar urged ambassadors and diplomats present at the event to foster closer ties between their respective governments and Indian creative industries.
“I know better than most how much influence ambassadors have with their home countries. I am confident that you will leave no stone unturned in making this endeavor a success,” he added.
The minister expressed confidence that international participation would play a key role in ensuring the summit’s success.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Jaishankar highlighted the importance of WAVES 2025, stating that the summit represents the coming together of cinema, the digital world, content revolution, IT industry, and India’s global reach.
“WAVES 2025 captures the real globalization and enormous diversity of our peoples and our planet,” he wrote.
The WAVES 2025 Summit is expected to serve as a pivotal platform for global discussions on the future of entertainment, content creation, and the role of technology in storytelling.
