Narendra Modi’s election rallies in West Bengal face delays due to heavy rain and poor weather conditions.
April 9, 2026: Narendra Modi arrived in Haldia on Thursday, nearly two hours behind schedule, due to inclement weather affecting parts of West Bengal. Continuous rainfall in southern regions, including Kolkata, left the helipad in Haldia waterlogged and muddy, causing delays in the Prime Minister’s first rally of the day.
According to party leaders, the delay is expected to impact Modi’s subsequent rallies in Asansol and Suri. Weather officials have indicated that conditions may improve later in the day, potentially helping the campaign schedule get back on track.
The Haldia rally holds political significance as it is considered a stronghold of Suvendu Adhikari, a key BJP leader in the region. The party aims to reinforce its presence in Purba Medinipur district through this rally, positioning the area as a crucial battleground in its contest against the Trinamool Congress.
