Weather Today: Rain, Thunderstorm Likely In Delhi; Orange Alert In Mumbai

July 3, 2025: Weather Today – As the monsoon advances across India, several states are grappling with its severe impact. From torrential rains and cloudbursts to deadly landslides and flash floods, regions such as Himachal Pradesh and Maharashtra have been placed on high alert by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), while Delhi witnesses moderate showers with thunder.

Himachal Pradesh Faces Nature’s Wrath

Himachal Pradesh continues to battle nature’s fury with heavy rains triggering flash floods, cloudbursts, and landslides. The IMD has issued an orange alert from Friday through Sunday, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated parts of the hill state.

Five districts — Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla — are on flash flood watch, with moderate to high risk in vulnerable areas. The death toll from rain-related incidents climbed to 11, and 34 people remain missing, according to officials.

Mandi has been hit the hardest, witnessing cloudbursts, flash floods, and a major landslide. The devastation has led to the closure of 151 roads, damage to 148 homes, 104 cattle sheds, 31 vehicles, and 14 bridges. Rescue operations are underway across affected regions.

Maharashtra’s Konkan Region on High Alert

The Konkan coast in Maharashtra — including Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg — is also bracing for very heavy rainfall. An orange alert has been issued, with localized flooding likely in low-lying areas.

In Pune, a red alert was earlier issued for the ghat (mountain) areas, though it expired Thursday morning. Rain continues to batter western Maharashtra, disrupting traffic and daily life in several districts.

Delhi Records Moderate Rainfall

Meanwhile, Delhi has been experiencing moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. The IMD has not issued any rain alert for the capital today, but intermittent showers are likely to continue.

The minimum temperature in Delhi today stood at 27.7°C, and the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 70, which falls under the ‘satisfactory’ category. The monsoon arrived early in Delhi this year, officially hitting the city on June 29, well ahead of its usual onset date of July 8

With the monsoon season far from over, the IMD has forecasted continued rainfall across Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan in the coming days. Authorities in affected states are urging citizens to stay alert, avoid travel in vulnerable areas, and follow safety advisories closely
