“Uninvited students wreak havoc at Lucknow wedding, leaving injuries, property damage, and empty plates in their wake.”

December 19, 2024: Lucknow, India: A joyous wedding celebration turned into a nightmare in Lucknow on Monday night after a group of students allegedly gatecrashed the event for free food. The incident occurred at Ramadhin Marriage Lawn in Hasanganj, where the wedding celebrations were underway. According to police reports, a group of students from a nearby Lucknow University hostel arrived at the venue seeking food. When confronted by the hosts, the students allegedly resorted to violence, including stone pelting and hurling crude bombs at the wedding party.

Speaking to the press, additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP-Central) Manisha Singh confirmed, “An FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the Hasanganj police station. Several individuals were injured, and those with serious injuries are now hospitalized.”

Bride’s Family Speaks Out

The bride’s father, Rinku Sonkar, expressed his devastation over the ruined celebrations. “We had made arrangements for 3,000 guests, but no one could eat. These students, under the influence of alcohol, misbehaved with women, injured 20 people, and destroyed everything. Our guests left without dining, and the event was completely spoiled.”

The groom’s father, Manoj Sonkar, shared a similar account. He revealed that some of the students initially joined the baraat (wedding procession) near IT Intersection and began harassing women. “When we tried to stop them, they retaliated violently. They ruined the entire wedding program,” he lamented.

Students Deny Allegations

While the families of the bride and groom have accused the students of causing the chaos, the students have claimed otherwise. In a protest following the incident, they alleged that it was the wedding guests who first assaulted them, which led to the situation spiraling out of control.

Police Action

The Lucknow police have launched an investigation into the incident, registering complaints from both parties. The authorities confirmed that the altercation started after the students were confronted about being uninvited. Although they initially left the venue, they returned in larger numbers and attacked the guests.

As the investigation continues, this incident has sparked outrage among locals, with many questioning the rising issue of gatecrashers at large events.
