Western Railway Introduces 98 Special Trains for Maha Kumbh 2025

Indian Railways Prepares for 45 Crore Devotees with 10,000 Trains, Special Arrangements for Comfort and Safety

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), January 10: In preparation for the Maha Kumbh 2025, Western Railway has launched 98 special trains to ensure smooth and safe travel for the expected influx of devotees. Ajay Solanki, PRO of Ahmedabad Division Railway, announced the measures taken to prioritize passenger convenience, hygiene, and security during the grand spiritual event.

“For the convenience of passengers, Western Railway is running Kumbh special trains, clearly identified through flex painting. Hygiene, the working of electric appliances, and overall passenger comfort are being prioritized. RPF teams have been deployed at stations for guidance and security. To date, 98 special trains have been introduced,” Solanki said.

Massive Railway Operations for Devotees

The Indian Railways has rolled out a robust plan to handle the unprecedented rush of pilgrims. Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Information and Publicity at the Railway Board, highlighted that:

  • Over 10,000 trains, including 3,300 special trains, will operate during the Kumbh.
  • Special measures like colour-coded waiting areas at stations have been implemented to manage unreserved passengers efficiently.
  • Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) teams will assist in crowd management and ensure orderly boarding processes.

The Spiritual Significance of Maha Kumbh 2025

Celebrated every 12 years, the Maha Kumbh draws millions of devotees to Prayagraj, where they gather at the Sangam—the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. Taking a holy dip during the event is believed to absolve sins and grant moksha (liberation).

This year, over 45 crore devotees are expected to attend the event, making it one of the largest gatherings in the world.

Shahi Snan Dates

The key bathing rituals (Shahi Snan) will take place on the following dates:

  • January 14 (Makar Sankranti)
  • January 29 (Mauni Amavasya)
  • February 3 (Basant Panchami)

Conclusion

With these comprehensive arrangements, including thousands of trains, crowd management strategies, and enhanced security, the Indian Railways is ensuring a seamless journey for millions of devotees. The Maha Kumbh 2025 promises to be a monumental celebration of faith, culture, and tradition.
