A 17-year-old boy named Aryan, who unintentionally filmed one of the most widely circulated videos of the Air India AI 171 plane crash in Ahmedabad on Thursday, has come forward to describe the trauma he’s been dealing with since the incident. His raw footage, which captured the final moments of the aircraft just before it turned into a fireball, has gone viral on social media, offering an immediate, chilling glimpse into the tragedy.

According to officials, Aryan gave his witness statement to the Ahmedabad Crime Branch on Saturday. The police clarified that no arrest or detention had taken place, countering earlier speculation online. “He came with his father to give a statement as a witness. He was then sent away with his father,” read an official statement.
The video clip—just 24 seconds long—was filmed from near Aryan’s rented home located close to the airport. Aryan told reporters that he was simply recording the aircraft flying overhead on his mobile phone, unaware that what he was documenting would become evidence of a national tragedy.
“I felt very scared. My sister was the first one to see the video. I don’t want to live here anymore, it feels dangerous,” Aryan shared, visibly shaken. His sister added, “He is not able to speak properly… he’s very scared.”
Aryan’s landlady, too, described his condition after the crash. “When I returned after the incident, he couldn’t speak. He stayed awake the whole night. He’s barely eating and has become very quiet,” she said.
