“Whole of Pakistan Is Within Range”: Army Air Defence Chief Warns Amid Operation Sindoor Aftermath

Lt Gen Sumer Ivan D’Cunha underscores India’s full-spectrum strike capabilities, says even Pakistan’s relocated GHQ would remain vulnerable to precision military action.

May 20, 2025: New Delhi: In a strong assertion of India’s military preparedness following Operation Sindoor, Lt Gen Sumer Ivan D’Cunha, Director General of Army Air Defence, stated that the entire territory of Pakistan lies within the range of Indian military capabilities, sending a clear message in the wake of recent cross-border tensions.

In an interview with ANI, Lt Gen D’Cunha said, “The whole of Pakistan is within range.” He added that even if Pakistan’s military command, headquartered in Rawalpindi, is shifted to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) or elsewhere, it will remain vulnerable: “They will have to really find a deep hole.”

India’s Reach and Readiness

Operation Sindoor marked a pivotal moment in India’s shift toward proactive security doctrine, employing indigenous precision munitions and loitering drones to target and destroy high-value Pakistani airbases. The strikes came in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack and signified India’s resolve to act decisively against cross-border terrorism.

Highlighting India’s technological edge, Lt Gen D’Cunha noted the use of modern air defence systems, guided munitions, and integrated strike capabilities that allowed swift and precise targeting during the operation.

“Reassurance To Every Citizen And Soldier”

The General also spoke of the psychological boost Operation Sindoor provided to the armed forces and civilians alike:

“The fact that we ensured no casualties in our cantonments from drone attacks reassured both our troops and their families… It made our soldiers, their families, and the people of India proud.”

India’s ‘Shishupala Doctrine’

Lt Gen D’Cunha referenced India’s “Shishupala Doctrine” — a strategy that emphasizes restraint until a threshold of provocation is breached, after which swift and resolute retaliation is undertaken. Operation Sindoor exemplified this approach, moving from reactive defence to offensive deterrence.
