Union Home Minister visits grieving families, assures swift and harsh action against attackers behind Valley’s deadliest civilian strike since Pulwama.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday visited Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, where at least 26 civilians—mostly tourists—were killed in a brutal terrorist attack at the picturesque Baisaran meadow. Meeting with survivors and the families of the deceased, Shah assured them of swift justice and unrelenting pursuit of those responsible for what he termed a “dastardly” act of terror.
Laying wreaths on the coffins of the victims at the Police Control Room in Srinagar, Shah was joined by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Grief-stricken survivors, some in tears, greeted them with folded hands, as seen in visuals shared by ANI.
“With a heavy heart, paid last respects to the deceased of the Pahalgam terror attack. Bharat will not bend to terror. The culprits of this dastardly terror attack will not be spared,” Mr. Shah posted on X.

The deadly attack took place on Tuesday afternoon in Baisaran, a meadow roughly six kilometers from Pahalgam, accessible only by foot or pony. Survivors described how the attackers asked for names before opening fire, turning a peaceful tourist spot into a scene of carnage.

Upon arriving in Srinagar hours after the attack, Shah was briefed by Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat. He later chaired a high-level security meeting with top officials, including LG Manoj Sinha, to coordinate the intensified search and counter-terror operations.
“We will come down heavily on the perpetrators with the harshest consequences,” Shah said in a stern warning to those behind the attack.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condemned the massacre. Cutting short his state visit to Saudi Arabia, he returned to India early Wednesday and convened a late-night meeting with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and senior officials at the airport.

“Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice… Their evil agenda will never succeed,” the Prime Minister posted on X.

The attack is the deadliest civilian assault in Kashmir since the Pulwama bombing of 2019, in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed. The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the banned Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), has claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam strike.

As the country mourns, national security forces continue their pursuit of the assailants, with fresh reinforcements deployed and the Valley on high alert.
