The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi, Gurgaon, and Faridabad on Monday, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds throughout the day. The national capital is expected to witness light to moderate rainfall, with wind speeds touching 30–40 kmph, according to the IMD’s weekly weather bulletin.

The alert comes as part of a broader Northwest India weather system that is bringing active rainfall across several states, signaling the imminent arrival of the southwest monsoon in the region.

🌧️ Delhi Weather Update

The IMD forecast indicates:

  • Morning to Night: Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds.
  • Rainfall will continue through June 24 and 25, with Tuesday expected to bring multiple rounds of showers across Delhi.

Delhi’s neighbouring cities, Gurgaon and Faridabad, are also under the yellow alert, likely to experience similar weather with frequent lightning and stormy spells.

🌿 Monsoon Update: Arrival Imminent

The IMD has projected that the monsoon is likely to reach Delhi by June 24, which could make it the earliest monsoon onset since 2013. For reference:

  • Monsoon arrived on June 28 in 2023, June 30 in 2022, and July 13 in 2021.

According to IMD’s latest update:

“Conditions are favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance over Delhi, Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab, western Uttar Pradesh, and Jammu in the next two days.”

So far, the monsoon has already covered most parts of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and the entire Ladakh region, while moving into some areas of Punjab.

🌧️ Widespread Rain Across India

The IMD also warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in:

  • Northwest India, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and the Konkan & Goa region until June 26.
  • Extremely heavy downpours are forecast for Madhya Pradesh on June 23 and 24.

🌦️ Closing Note:
With the monsoon on the brink of reaching Delhi and nearby regions, residents should prepare for frequent rain spells, localized flooding, and potential traffic disruptions. The next two days are crucial, as the southwest monsoon system continues its northward surge, bringing with it much-needed relief from summer heat—and possible infrastructure challenges due to intense showers.
