The ATM, set up inside an air-conditioned coach, allows passengers to withdraw cash mid-journey, making it a true “Cash on Wheels” experience. This innovation is part of the Indian Railways’ Innovative and Non-Fare Revenue Ideas Scheme (INFRIS) and was developed in collaboration with the Bank of Maharashtra.
🔧 Successful Trial & Connectivity Challenges
The ATM underwent a successful trial run with smooth operations for most of the journey. However, minor network issues were reported between Igatpuri and Kasara, a stretch notorious for poor mobile signals due to tunnels and terrain.

🛠️ Additional Features & Accessibility
- Besides cash withdrawals, passengers can order cheque books and generate account statements.
- Though the machine is located in an AC coach, passengers from all 22 interconnected coaches of the Panchvati Express can access it.
- The same ATM is also accessible on the Mumbai-Hingoli Jan Shatabdi Express, as both trains share the same rake.

🛡️ Security & Monitoring
To ensure passenger safety and ATM security, the unit is:
- CCTV monitored 24×7
- Equipped with a shutter system for added protection.
🗣️ Railway Officials Speak
“The results were good. People will now be able to withdraw cash while travelling,” said Ity Pandey, Divisional Railway Manager of Bhusawal.
“We will monitor the machine’s performance continuously.”
She added that the concept originated during an INFRIS brainstorming session and was rapidly turned into reality by the Bhusawal team.
If the initiative proves popular, Indian Railways plans to roll out ATMs on more trains across India — transforming train journeys into even more seamless travel experiences.
