New generation of athletes not hungry enough: Star boxer Mary Kom

Mary Kom, a six-time world champion boxer, thinks that young people today don’t want to be successful like she did. Mary is still very interested in boxing even though she is 40 years old, but the International Boxing Association (IBA) rules say she can’t do it after that age.

The bronze medalist at the Olympics said she is “super fit” and still wants to do more, but younger people don’t have the same drive as she does. “I am super fit, I want to achieve more and more, that hunger I have, the young generation, one medal and they settle down, if they have that spirit and that hunger we will have so many medals and champions in our country,” Mary said at an event.

Mary also said that an athlete must be much more eager to win a prize in individual sports than in team sports. “In football, cricket, and basketball, you still have a chance. But in any other sport, you lose and the game is over in a second.” It comes from within; you have to win a medal no matter what. “Nothing can happen if you’re not willing,” she said. She then talked about how happy she was that she had inspired many players to get better. “Training is hard. The next time we fight, we want to win a medal.” The most important things are inner hunger and drive. Facilities are better now than they were when I started my career in 2001, when no one knew there were women fighting. My hard work paid off, and now there are a lot of young women like Mary Kom. “As an Indian girl and mother, I’m proud that many people are following in my footsteps,” Mary said.
